Concrete Guide
High Strength structural mixes - precast concrete and heavy duty floors:
1 part cement, 1.5 parts concrete sand and 3 parts aggregate
General Structural Concrete - paths driveways, garage floors:
1 part cement, 2 parts concrete sand, 4 parts aggregate
Footings - for domestic brick walls, fenceposts:
1 part cement, 2.5 parts concrete sand 5 parts aggregate

Float / Base Coat - on a substrate of :
Float / Base Coat (Cored Clay bricks) - 1 part cement, 1 part Lime, 7 parts plasterers sand
Float / Base Coat (Calcium Silicate Bricks) - 1 parts cement, 1.5 parts lime, 6 parts plasterers sand
Float / Base Coat (Concrete Blocks) - 1 parts cement, 1 part lime, 6 parts plasterers sand
Sand Finish base coat - 1 part cement, 1 part lime, 4.5 parts plasterers sand
Sand Finish top coat - 1 part cement, 1 part lime, 5.1 parts plasterers sand
General Notes
- Use only recommended concrete, mortar or plastering sands free from clay and organic contamination.
- Use a 50/50 blended 20mm + 10mm stone for concrete aggregate.
- Keep water content to the minimum required for mixing and placing. The more water, the lower the strength.
- Use a standard sized vessel eg., a bucket, to measure all materials.
- Admixtures should only be used according to the manufacturer instructions. Hylime contains an air-entraining agent, additional air entraining agent is not required.
- Quantities estimated are typical industry usage and will vary according to individual use patterns.
