For centuries, wool has protected sheep from extreme weather conditions, and has been used as insulation in Europe since the eighteenth century. Due to wool's intricate structure, it has two major advantages over manmade fibres – it breathes and traps air, giving higher thermal and acoustic ratings over other insulators.
Higgins has researched and developed a natural wool insulation product suitable for the varied Australian conditions. Higgins is focusing on the need to conserve our precious energy while still providing effective insulation solutions to the market.
When you install Higgins New Wool Insulation (Fire Retarded), you are installing a completely safe and effective Australian product, manufactured by a 100% Australian owned Company.
All products are fully tested and carry a life time guarantee.
Why Wool?
Research by the CSIRO shows that wool performs better as an insulator. Wool is a natural, active fibre and traps large columns of air that provide high resistance to heat flow. Higgins Manufactures a wide range of Wool Insulation using Australian Wool. The embodied energy of wool is one of the lowest of all insulating materials - wool is one of the wonders of the world for insulating. Higgins Insulation manufactures a wide range of thermal and acoustic Insulation products using wool to suit individual requirements and budgets.
Product Description
Higgins New Wool Batts (Fire Retarded) are manufactured from natural wool fibre and treated with Di Sodium Octaborate to provide a fire retardant and insect proofing, in accordance with BS 5803.4
Wool has the ability to shed water, yet readily absorbs and desorbs water vapor. Wool can therefore act as a buffer or stabilizer to reduce peak humidity levels and condensation – this has been confirmed in research conducted by the International Wool Secretariat.
Corrosion Resistance
Higgins New Wool Batts (Fire Retarded) pass the Australian Standards for corrosive effects on mild steel.
Moisture Resistance
Wool's moisture absorbing properties give it major thermal resistance advantages. Wool has the ability to shed water, yet readily absorbs and disperses water vapour. Wool has the ability to stabilize and reduce peak humidity and condensation levels. (International Wool Secretariat)
Maximum Service Temperature
Maximum Service Temperature is 90 Degrees Celsius. Higgins New Wool Batts were developed to suit temperatures normally occurring in domestic or commercial buildings.

Ceiling & Wall Applications
Ceiling Batt Applications
Higgins Wool Ceiling Batts have been designed by Higgins Insulation to provide efficient thermal and acoustic to the home owner and to commercial projects including project builders
Higgins Wool Ceiling Batts have been designed to reduce noise heat and cold and to reduce energy costs by keeping heat out and keeping winter warmth in during winter. Correctly installed Wool Batts will substantially decrease your air conditioning costs. The Wool Batts are supplied in two widths to suit standard domestic constructions:
430mm wide to be placed between joists at 450mm centres.
580mm wide to be placed between joists at 600mm centres
Wall Batt Applications
Higgins Wool Wall Batts have been manufactured to specific thickness so that correct thermal and acoustic rating can be achieved without the insulation making contact with the external walls.
Higgins Wool Wall Batts have been designed to reduce noise, heat and cold and to reduce energy costs by keeping heat out and keeping winter warmth in during winter. Correctly installed Wool Batts will substantially decrease your air conditioning costs. Wool Wall Batts will also reduce noise entering the home through external walls and the transfer of noise between internal walls. The Batts can be stapled or taped into position so that ventilation of the wall cavity is maintained.
