Plastic Film
The Smorgon branded black and orange polythene is manufactured and tested to the highest standards, with good mechanical strength, consistent quality and a resistance to puncture and perforation. Other unbranded products may not match this quality and consistency.

Polythene used is made especially for the Australian building industry and conforms to Australian Standards AS2870, AS4347.6 and AS1326.

The uses and advantages.

Smorgon Steel Reinforcing Polythene building film will provide a moisture and vapour barrier for use with slab on ground construction. The low density polythene film membrane is available in a range of thicknesses and roll sies, and can be used as a concrete underlay and as a curing blanket.

The concrete underlay membrane will prevent moisture from penetrating beneath the slab. This prevents damage to floor coverings from rising damp and mould.

It also gives a stronger and denser slab, prevents concrete wastage and slows the curing process. It resists attacks by acid or alkaline soils and does not deteriorate when it comes in contact with water. Smorgon Polythene building film also facilitates and speeds the removal of formwork.

Used as a curing blanket, the film gives a stronger slab by preventing the escape of heat and moisture, thereby slowing the curing process.

All Smorgon films are branded with their Impact Resistance (IR) rating. General Purpose Black (IR2) has medium impact resistance for standard soil conditions. Industrial Orange (IR2) has similar properties but also allows easier recognition of membrane ruptures. Premium Orange (IR3) has high impact resistance, while Super Premium Orange (IR3) provides very high impact resistance for areas of extreme soil movement.

Installation

Place the underlay over the prepared base. Lap up over the edge of formwork. Ensure the underlay folds down into beam trenches and laps up over the top of the formwork. Lap underlay at least 200 mm at joints. Continuous taping of joints is required. Then cut the underlay, turn up and tape around all drainage pipes. Place a piece over the top to prevent debris entering and tape to turned up underlay.

Remember, you can purchase your polythene film supplies at the same time you pick up reinforcing fabric, bar and other building accessories, that's why Smorgon ARC is a more convenient and cost effective one stop shop for you.
